This is actually two years old now, slightly pre-dating the iPad, which in some ways has superceded this as a concept. However I think there is something here in combining the printed and screen image that has real potential and could be explored further. Any ideas?

There are Cats in this Book

Previously shortlisted for the V&A illustration award, Schwarz has now created a simple story about a familiar situation, so that the very youngest readers can learn how to move through a book, turning the pages and lifting the flaps.

The cats investigate boxes, play with wool and snuggle down under pillows and blankets, with much of the action revealed under the flaps.

Cleverly, the resolution to one page is usually found on the next, and there is constant encouragement to turn over to discover it.

Combining energetic, minimal drawings, with the cats directly addressing their readers via speech bubbles, Schwarz tells us not only about cats and their habits but also about the compulsive and interactive nature of enjoying books.

HOUSE of ILLUSTRATION - Picture it: Inspiration Through Illustration

Here is a film put together by House of Illustration to document a project were they put illustrators into London schools. Looks like fun.

House of Illustration is an interesting organisation, founded by among other people, Quentin Blake, its aim is to establish a permanent collection of illustration in Britain for the public to view and to support and promote illustration in general. They are the chaps behind that comptition that Alistair spotted to illustrate an edition of 'The Outsider' by Albert Camus.

They now have a facebook page too which is very informative have a look at it here its where i grabbed the film from but there is also a lot of other useful info there.
