"Los Angeles, California (May 12, 2011) - Mirada has teamed up with @radical.media director Chris Milk on an interactive music video experience called "3 Dreams of Black" for Danger Mouse and composer Daniele Luppi's Spaghetti Western-inspired concept album ROME. The album features Jack White and Norah Jones and will be released on the record label EMI. The promo for the track "Black," sung by Norah Jones, is built for Google Chrome and is an immersive, controllable game-like experience that transports fans into a surreal landscape where continually-morphing creatures -- created by Mirada -- spread life or destruction. "3 Dreams of Black" premieres May 12th at www.ro.me."

This is the latest project from Chris Milk, if you din't know who that is then you are in for a treat he is a really innovative creative maker of interactive films and real world experiences.

This is actually two years old now, slightly pre-dating the iPad, which in some ways has superceded this as a concept. However I think there is something here in combining the printed and screen image that has real potential and could be explored further. Any ideas?

Sensu iPad paintbrush

Some clever people have figured out how to make a paintbrush work on an iPad screen.

It's not pressure sensitive, and can't detect individual brush fibres, but is intriguing none the less.

Image-making Tablet Tech

Two newish methods for making illustration using fancy touch-screen thingamijigs.

First up, 'Mixel', an iPad app for making collages. There are a few examples out there that do a similar thing to this. The clever idea here is that not only can you share your work over the internet, but others can take apart your collages and re-use bits of them in their own work. You can then track how and where this has happened.

Next, a new controller for the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 that is essentially a Wacom-style drawing tablet for these games consoles.

What is most interesting about this is the quality of the image that can be produced the accompanying software - a weird sort of diluted gouche look:

Back up your digital artwork some more!

Hello Students!

I have just been given license to blog here, and am using it to tell all of you people making great digital art to back it up.

I don't mean backing up stuff every so often by copying it manually somewhere, but by setting up Time Machine (if you have a mac) and/or Dropbox (if you have a decent WiFi connection). Or use another automated backup program of your choice. But do set it up if you haven't yet.

It's easy, and you will definitely need it one day.

Dropbox is particularly brilliant because you can set it up to synchronize whole projects between several computers - you could collaborate with someone on the other side of the world, if you so wish. It also keeps a log of all changes you make to files, so if you save something at the wrong resolution and close it (AAAARGH) you can still get back the last save (phew).

And you'll be so glad the day that your whole computer packs up all of a sudden in the middle of a big commission - and you still have EVERYTHING backed up.
