Linda Scott is a freelance illustrator and academic. For more than twenty years ,since graduating from The RCA her work has appeared in a variety of quality publications including The Observer, The Independent, The Guardian, Times Education Supplement and The Tatler. She has enjoyed editorial commissions from a broad range of clients covering women's interests and lifestyle, weekend supplements ,educational content, computing and law to name a few. Linda has also worked within the fields of advertising, publishing, design and has illustrated a fibreglass cow which was exhibited in a group show 'Jack's Cows' at The Hall for Cornwall and was sold at auction for charity. She's currently working on designs for another fibreglass character in the form of a carousel horse.
Recent commissions include four illustrated maps for ' Illiachi ' , a World Buffet restaurant. The maps will be used throughout the restaurant on walls and as window vinyls , on menus and the website and to advertise the newly refurbished venue which will be closed over the next week or so and will reopen during mid march 2012.
On april 14th 2012, Linda heads off for Malta as part of the documentary maker Ceri Levy's group , in response to the illegal hunting of migrating birds . An army of creatives are working with Levy to document the hunts and to produce a body of work for his ongoing project ' Ghosts of Gone Birds ' . The trip is funded through Plymouth University and builds on previous research on the theme.
Linda's work was exhibited at The London Transport Museum during 2010 having been selected for the 'Cycling in London' competition and has also exhibited at the ICA, The Mall Galleries and The William Morris Museum in London. She recently spent 24 hours ensconced in the Education Core at The Eden Project creating ( almost non - stop ! ) 24 images as part of the 24 Hr Comic Etc event which provided a fascinating insight into creativity, tighter than tight deadlines and sleep deprivation!
On may 14th 2011 , Linda participated in another all - night event at The Exchange Gallery in Penzance . More than twenty artists , printmakers and writers and a couple of illustrators set themselves up in the gallery space , making use of the printmaking facilities which accompanied the current show - Print ! The work produced was edited and compiled into an online book titled ' A Book of The Night ' and original artwork and writing was bound and a physical book produced - one of which will be auctioned and the other to be held in The Exchange Gallery's archive.
Written research has included an Action Research Project as part of her PGCE and a recent submission to Varoom Online .
Her personal visual practise remains at the heart of her visual research. Themes include people and animals interacting. Her work is underpinned by a love of colour, design, shape and humour.
Linda is currently lecturing at Plymouth University and University College Falmouth .
